Finding a Good babysitter

It can be tough to get a night away from home as parents. Especially if you're uncomfortable with leaving your child/children home along with a baby sitter. The first step is find that baby sitter you feel comfortable with.

Find a good baby sitter can be a difficult task for those parents with few options. There are some good resources however and some right approaches to take when choosing a baby sitter for your children. Of course there are also some signs to watch for that you may have made an incorrect choice of baby sitter.

The largest step is finding someone to care for your children. A lot of parents dislike the idea of leaving their child with any person at all, even if professional daycare services. While leaving your children in someone else's is a very difficult task, it's an important one to be sure your child develops the right attachment towards you.

If you currently have your child in daycare, you might want to check about “parents' night out”. Several daycares will offer this service so finding a baby sitter isn't as difficult. I have a friend who currently has their daughter in daycare three times a week. The daycare provider has one Saturday every month where the workers will watch over the children for a nominal fee. This is a very useful service to the parents and easy on the children.

Of course not every daycare service offers a baby sitter service also. Or potentially you will need a baby sitter during an evening that isn't covered by the daycare company. You may not have grandparents to the children close by or healthy enough to watch them. Also you live to far away from other family and friends who could help you out. What does a parent do now?

It's important to construct a network. Talk to neighbors and friends who have kids around the same age as yours. Who are they using for a baby sitter? Inquire at church or at work. Both of these cab be an excellent way to get a lead on a perfect baby sitter in your community.

Of course once you have located your baby sitter you might find yourself still questioning your choice. Is this person experienced enough? Will my child be getting the type of care I expect? Does this person have my child's well-being as their number one interest. Of course these are all concerns to have, and there are a few signs to watch for that your choice isn't the best one.

Remember your child is never going to like you going out, but watch your child's behavior. Does he/she cry or become very upset when the baby sitter arrives? Do your children seem too eager for you to return home? Are they watching for you out the window or waiting for you at the door even though you've only been away for maybe a bit longer then an hour? These are all signs that you might want to find a new baby sitter.

On the other side of the coin, remember some kids will get worked up about being separated from their parents. The baby sitter might be the perfect choice for your family, but you'll still get some of the signs mentioned above. Always use your best judgment when it comes to selecting who looks after your children.
